Why I built it
A large review moves at several speeds. One proposal is ready for action, another needs more discussion, and a third has been postponed. I need to see where each stands, what has changed, and which documents belong together. Arete gives that work a place to live.
How it works
- Find a policy and see its place in the review.
- Read earlier versions alongside the current proposal and inspect the changes in wording.
- Follow the timeline through discussions, amendments, and decisions, with links back to the source.
- Look across the project to understand completed work and the work still ahead.
How I shaped it
Make the planning question clear.
I wanted the Board to see how much policy review remained and what finishing would require. An early chart offered several forecasts, so I asked for a simpler comparison: keep the average pace visible and explore either a monthly pace or a finish date, one at a time. I also asked for a choice between document counts and estimated pages, since policies vary in length.
The policy view needed the same attention to its audience. I asked whether another board member could find a policy, see staff’s recommendation, and understand the changes. That led to more visible recommendations, direct access to source documents, and fewer repeated explanations. Working through those screens with AI meant repeatedly asking what a board member was trying to learn from them.
